Serena Williams will be putting down her tennis racket for a while after she was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism and later treated for a hematoma.

Williams was treated at a Los Angeles hospital and then returned to her home in the city.

Serene made a statement:
Thankfully everything was caught in time,” her agents said in a statement. “With continued doctor visits to monitor her situation, she is recuperating at home under strict medical supervision.”

According to Wikipedia pulmonary embolism is a blockage of the main artery of the lung or one of its branches by a substance that has travelled from elsewhere in the body through the bloodstream.
